The Australian guitarist, a master of the acoustic, is no stranger to Canada, having racked up multiple visits over the last decade or so. The son of a serious blues aficionado, he grew up surrounded by musicians, including Aussie legend Dutch Tilders and as a teenager even spent a summer hanging out in California with the late, great bluesman Brownie McGhee. “For me, there’s always been this balance between paying respect to the real deal, but adding something to it myself without trampling on the history, and that’s a really fine line to tread,” Spiegel told the Ottawa Citizen in a 2017 interview. He also endears himself to audiences with humorous tales of his touring adventures.
