International pop star Olivia Rodrigo shared her experience of being interrogated at the Canada – U.S. border during an appearance on the “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” earlier this week.
“I got in trouble with the law for the first time in my life,” the artist told Fallon in a clip of the show shared online. It happened as she was trying to cross the border into the U.S. from Canada while travelling for her GUTS Tour, she said.
In the video she goes on to describe being brought to an interrogation room with “a big cop with a gun,” who asked her if she had ever been arrested before.
For the record, Rodrigo said she hadn’t been, but that the officer’s questions made her second guess herself.
“I’m, like, gaslighting myself, I’m like ‘Oh my god, maybe I was arrested and didn’t know it,’” the star recalled of her experience.
Rodrigo said she was “freaking out,” telling herself “I’m not going to be let into America.”
After 30 minutes of interrogation, the “good 4 u” singer said the officer asked her name and then told Rodrigo that there was another woman her age who looked like her and who had been arrested multiple times named Olivia Rodriguez.
“I was pissed,” the star told Fallon, “but crisis averted.”
Since the clip was shared, fans have been reacting to the 21-year-old artist’s experience online.
“The Olivia Rodriguez name drop is so crazily coincidental that I can’t just help laughing lolol,” one commenter on YouTube said.
Another chimed in with some sound advice, “first story is cute but always ask for a lawyer!”
