Just days after York Regional Police issued a warning about an increase in staged collision carjackings, it’s happened again.
The latest occurrence took place on Sunday, January 26, at around 10:20 p.m. in the Major Mackenzie Drive East and Reesor Road area.
Investigators say the victim’s Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon was rear-ended by a dark-coloured sedan.
Two suspects then allegedly forced the victim out of their vehicle and fled in it.
The two suspects who drove off in the stolen vehicle are described as males with skinny builds wearing all dark clothing and ski masks.
No description is available for the third suspect, who remained in the other vehicle.
It’s the latest in a string of similar staged collision carjackings in York Region since November.
Police have not said if the incidents are linked, but say they share similarities.
“Trust your instincts. If you feel you are being followed, or if something doesn’t feel right, drive to a police station or contact police immediately,” a YRP spokesperson said in a previous release.
“If you are involved in a collision and have concerns about the circumstances, call 911. If you are the victim of a carjacking, prioritize your personal safety and be the best witness you can be.”
