A two-alarm house fire in North York caused significant damage to multiple properties and forced the evacuation of several nearby residents early Friday morning.
Toronto police say officers were called to reports of a house fire in the York Mills Road and Bayview Avenue area shortly after 2 a.m.
Emergency crews responded to the blaze near Daleberry Place, where firefighters worked to battle flames that engulfed a home under construction.
Police said several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution while crews tackled the fire. No injuries have been reported.
The fire also prompted traffic restrictions in the area, with one lane closed in both directions on York Mills Road near Daleberry Place. Drivers were advised to expect delays.
A neighbour told CityNews he heard a loud “thud” at around 1:15 a.m. before looking outside and seeing the under-construction home fully engulfed in flames.
He said the fire spread to his property, causing significant damage and leaving him and his wife unable to return home.
According to the neighbour, the house where the fire started had been under construction since 2023 and was still far from completion.
Toronto Fire Services crews remained on scene into the morning, and the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
The investigation is ongoing.
