TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index fell more than 150 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the technology, industrial and financial sectors, while U.S. stock markets also retreated.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 152.91 points at 33,664.60.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 768.97 points at 48,857.00. The S&P 500 index was down 74.48 points at 6,835.03, while the Nasdaq composite was down 289.16 points at 22,596.91.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.08 cents US compared with 73.05 cents US on Friday.
The April crude oil contract was up 29 cents US at US$66.77 per barrel.
The April gold contract was up US$136.80 at US$5,217.70 an ounce.
