TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was down more than 350 points in late-morning trading as the price of oil rose to nearly US$90 a barrel.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 354.73 points at 33,255.24.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 566.87 points at 47,387.87. The S&P 500 index was down 71.48 points at 6,759.23, while the Nasdaq composite was down 205.06 points at 22,543.92.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.44 cents US compared with 73.12 cents US on Thursday.
The April crude oil contract was up US$7.98 at US$88.99 per barrel.
The April gold contract was up US$70.20 at US$5,148.90 an ounce.
