Environment Canada warns that the capital is expected to receive a significant dump of rainfall beginning Sunday afternoon.
In a “red” statement Sunday, the agency forecast rainfall starting April 12 will total 20-30 mm in the capital by Monday evening.
“The frozen or nearly saturated ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,” the agency cautioned.
Rain is expected to move into the area late Sunday afternoon and persist into Monday afternoon. Thunderstorms may affect portions of the region.
Environment Canada is predicting rain until Thursday with a possible break on Wednesday.
Outside of Ottawa, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority has already issued a
flood watch
for Tay Valley and Rideau Lakes regions as water levels remain high in the upper watershed.
“A sustained warming trend over the next 10 days, with temperatures consistently above zero, is expected to continue snowmelt and runoff.”
The flood watch will remain in effect until April 22.
