A woman was arrested after what the Ottawa Police Service described as a “hate-motivated incident” on an OC Transpo bus.

At about 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, a woman got onto a bus at the OC Transpo station at 1360 Bank St. and started to verbally confront two passengers, using racial slurs and making threats, police said in a news release the following day.

Another passenger was then assaulted when he attempted to intervene, police said.

OC Transpo special constables went to the location and arrested a woman, who was held until the Ottawa police arrived. The suspect was to appear in court on Monday, April 27.

A Hate and Bias Crime Unit investigation is ongoing, and police would like to speak with any witnesses to the incident.

Those with any information were asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Hate and Bias Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2015. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.
