Not even Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer could avoid the downturn in Toronto’s housing market.
The four-time all-star sold his Lawrence Park luxury home for six million dollars, almost $500,000 less than its original asking price, according to HouseSigma. It was recently listed by Leverage Global Partners for $6.45 million, and was on the market for 34 days.
The 5,300 square-foot luxury home at 68 Dawlish Ave., near Yonge Street and Lawrence Avenue East, has five bedrooms and six bathrooms. It was originally built in 2005 but was renovated in 2019 before Springer and his wife Charlise bought it in 2022.
The GTA real estate market is experiencing its biggest downturn since the early 1990s, according to the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board in May, with average prices declining across the region by about 22 per cent since the peak of the market in February 2022.
Springer is in the last season of his six-year, $150-million (U.S.) contract. The sale of his home has some Jays fans wondering whether he will return to Toronto after he enters free agency this off-season.
