Residents in a number of Gatineau sectors are asked to reduce water usage following a major water main break on Rue Saint-Louis Friday.

In a news release Saturday, the city urged residents to reduce consumption in Gatineau, Hull and Aylmer sectors.

Authorities warned “reduced water pressure and/or brief service interruptions may be experienced” in the areas.

Residents are encouraged to limit laundry, dishwasher use, watering lawns, washing vehicles and filling pools until further notice.

Meanwhile, Friday’s boil-water advisory affecting an estimated 45,000 residents remains in effect.

Residents should boil drinking water for one minute before consuming it, until the advisory is lifted.

Once the advisory is lifted, residents should open all cold-water taps and let the water run for one minute, or until it becomes cold, before using it.
