A 44-year-old man is facing a sexual assault charge after an alleged incident Sunday in the Lowertown area.

At about 8 a.m. on Aug. 2, an Ottawa Police Service officer was flagged down and told about a disturbance in the 400 block of Rideau Street.

The officer then spoke with a woman who said she had been approached from behind by an unknown male while out walking. It’s alleged the male sexually assaulted the woman and attempted to expose himself.

The officer at the scene quickly located a suspect nearby, and the person was arrested without incident, police said in an Aug. 5 news release.

In addition to the sexual assault charge, Nasir Abdi Suldaan was charged with breach of probation. He is scheduled for an Aug. 18 court appearance.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Central Investigations Section at 613-236-1222, extension 5166. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.
