The search of an apartment building in Gatineau on Thursday led to the recovery of nearly $30,000 worth of stolen property, the Gatineau Police Service says.

Three people — two women and one man — were arrested, a Nov. 6 news release said.

The release said the investigation began with a report from a complainant that a boat motor had been stolen. A few days later, that individual informed police that he had spotted a sale list for the motor on the Facebook Marketplace platform.

Police then obtained a search warrant for the apartment building on Édouard-Ellis Street in the Gatineau sector.

Nearly $30,000 worth of stolen items were recovered during the search, police said, including boat motors; electric bicycles; fishing equipment; outdoor gear; construction tools; collectibles; and computer equipment.

The women, aged 49 and 57, and a 49-year-old man were arrested at the scene. Two of them were later released from custody with promises to appear in court and subject to conditions, police said.

Charges of possession of stolen property were to be submitted to Quebec’s Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the sale of stolen goods was urged to contact the Gatineau Police Service’s information line at 819-243-4636, option 5.
