An adult pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Barrhaven, say Ottawa paramedics.
The incident happened at 6:20 a.m., about an hour before sunrise, near the intersection of Strandherd and Cresthaven drives in south Ottawa.
“The patient sustained critical injuries and unfortunately, they were pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics,” said Marc-Antoine Deschamps, superintendent of public information for Ottawa Paramedic Service.
Ottawa police closed Strandherd Drive to traffic from Woodroffe Avenue to Prince of Wales Drive to investigate the fatal incident. Police said that the road was expected to be closed for several hours.
The victim was not immediately identified, pending notification of their next of kin.
