As much as 100 mm of rain could fall on the city as a low pressure system stalls over Ottawa, according to Environment Canada.
In some parts of the capital multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. This could lead to rainfall amounts between 50 mm and 100 mm, the national forecaster said.
The agency said rainfall amounts will vary widely from place to place “due to the convective nature of this precipitation.”
Thunderstoms in the early hours of Tuesday left hundreds without power in isolated parts of Ottawa.
Throughout the day, rainfall warnings may be issued for specific areas as confidence in the forecasts increases, Environment Canada said. The storm is expected to taper off late Wednesday morning.
It’s been less than a month since a storm on Canada Day brought more than 100 mm of rain to some parts of Ottawa. Nepean was hit particularly hard , with some residents still repairing their homes.
