An average audience of 3.2 million Canadians tuned in to watch Canada’s World Cup opener vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina on TSN, CTV, RDS and streaming — roughly 600,000 more than watched the Stanley Cup Game 6 clincher between the Carolina Hurricanes and Las Vegas Golden Knights.
According to a press release from Bell Media, 8.6 million people watched at least part of Canada’s history-making 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina Friday afternoon.
Sunday night’s 3-0 Stanley Cup clinching victory by the Carolina Hurricanes, meanwhile, drew an average of 2.6 million viewers, including 2 million on English language TV and streaming on CBC and Sportsnet, and roughly 600,000 in French language TV and streaming on TVA.
In comparison, the Game 7 World Series heartbreaker between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers drew an average of 10.9 million viewers for English language coverage, with another million or so watching in French.
And roughly 6.3 million Canadians tuned in to watch the final of the Four Nations Cup in 2024, with Canada edging the U.S. 3-2 in overtime.
