A four-year-old child has died after being found unresponsive in a neighbour’s backyard swimming pool, according to Ottawa police.
Emergency crews were called to a residence near the intersection of Bathgate Drive and Matheson Road in the city’s east end at about 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 14., police said. Efforts to save the child were unsuccessful.
A preliminary investigation by police revealed no sign of suspicious activity. Police said they will continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, and hope to find out how the child gained access to the property.
To protect the family’s privacy, identifying details such as the child’s gender and the street name will not be released, police added.
