TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index rose more than one per cent Thursday on gains in the mining sector, while U.S. markets also gained ground.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 382.99 points at 35,874.26.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 316.14 points at 51,778.04. The S&P 500 index was up 85.95 points at 7,637.76, while the Nasdaq composite was up 439.88 points at 26,418.30.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.49 cents US compared with 71.70 cents US on Wednesday.
The November crude oil contract was down 28 cents US at US$97.23 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$12.20 at US$4,399.70 an ounce.
