STRATFORD — On a recent Saturday afternoon at the Stratford Festival, at exactly 4:28 p.m., the cast of “The Tempest” took their bows in front of an appreciative crowd at the Festival Theatre. Minutes later, as they exited the stage and retreated to their dressing rooms after their matinee, another troupe was waiting in the wings, gearing up for their own production.

Only this performance would play out around the entire theatre — from the rafters high above the stage to the hidden passages tucked beneath the orchestra-level seating — and it would all be done in front of a near-empty auditorium.
