Man, 18, arrested in Rideau Centre with replica gun, knife

Ottawa police are crediting alert members of the public after an 18-year-old man was arrested Friday night with a replica handgun and a knife in the Rideau Centre food court.

In a release, police said “several people” called 911 to report the incident.

There were no injuries in the incident, police said.

Police said Jad Ghanem of Ottawa was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, causing a disturbance and breach of probation.

He appeared in court Saturday and remains in custody.
