A man from Georgian Bay has been charged with first degree murder in connection with a 2023 shooting on Farmers Way in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Police Service announced on Wednesday they charged 48-year-old Richard Micks in connection with the homicide of Granit Ahmeti.
Ahmeti was 26 when he was killed on Aug. 19, 2023. Police said at the time Ahmeti was shot to death in Ottawa’s rural southeast area early in the morning.
Emergency responders were called that day to an address in the 4000 block of Farmers Way, just east of Leitrim Road in the Piperville-Carlsbad area at about 3:45 a.m. after people witnessed a shooting, police said.
The shooting took place outdoors. It was investigated at the time as an “isolated incident.”
In 2023, his family remembered him as “a beloved son, selfless brother, loving partner and the kindest friend anyone could be blessed in this life to have.”
Micks, of the Georgian Bay area, was arrested and charged by the Homicide Unit on Tuesday, Aug. 25. He appeared in court on Wednesday.
