Man drowns after canoe capsizes on Upper Rideau Lake

A 24-year-old Brampton, Ont., man drowned Saturday after his canoe capsized on Upper Rideau Lake.

Just after 5:30 p.m. on May 30, officers from the Leeds County OPP detachment responded to a marine distress call. The Grenville Paramedic Service and the Rideau Lakes Fire Department also attended the scene.

After the canoeist was located, he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said he was not wearing a life-jacket at the time the canoe capsized.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted, police said. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation was asked to contact the Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
