“The Social” is saying goodbye to co-host Melissa Grelo and hello to the podcast era.
CTV announced Wednesday that the Canadian daytime series will be reimagined as a video podcast in its 14th season.
The new format will be filmed on the Toronto set of “The Social” without its usual studio audience.
The show will stream live on YouTube at 1:00 p.m. ET, followed by an immediate broadcast of the recorded one-hour episodes on CTV at 2:00 p.m. ET.
CTV said Grelo, who has co-hosted and moderated “The Social” for 13 years, will depart the show to focus on her own health and wellness podcast, “Aging Powerfully with Melissa Grelo.”
In a social media statement, Grelo expressed gratitude to CTV for greenlighting her idea for “The Social” years ago, but that she sees a new opportunity in her podcast to connect with people more directly and own more of the stories she tells.
Jess Allen, Andrea Bain, and Cynthia Loyst will continue to host “The Social,” which will also stream on Crave, iHeart.com and the iHeartRadio Canada app.
“This show has been one of the great privileges of my career,” said Grelo in her statement.
“Thirteen seasons of conversations, laughter, unforgettable moments and, most importantly, the chance to sit beside women I deeply admire and love.”
“The Social” executive producer Laura Scarfo said transitioning the daytime show to a video podcast will allow it “to expand and reach Canadian and international audiences on the platform of their choice.”
A news release says the show is on “hiatus” until it returns on Sept. 9 in its new format.
