Around 10 a.m., Downdetector had more than 132,000 reports indicating Facebook was down in the United States. In Canada, reports peaked around 12,000.
A few minutes later, however, Downdetector also seemed to have gone down, as the website used to report outage issues showed a 404 error to users. The site has since returned.
Downdetector also indicated Messenger was down, with 6,000 reports in Canada around 9:40 a.m.
Other media reports had indicated that the number of users being affected is in the millions.
The vice-president of communications at Meta, Andy Stone, posted on X that they were aware of problems people were having with the service.
Before noon, Stone said they were “coming back, though it may take a bit of time for everything to be fully back to normal.”
