A needle was discovered in a chocolate bar collected during Halloween trick-or-treating, the Ottawa Police Service said on Tuesday.
A news release said a parent discovered the needle and reported the matter to police on Nov. 3, three days after the tampered candy was believed to have been collected in the Prince of Wales or Chinatown areas of the city.
No injuries were reported, police said.

As a precaution, the OPS encouraged parents and caregivers to carefully inspect their children’s Halloween candy before it was consumed, checking the packaging for signs of tampering such as small holes, tears or broken seals.
Anyone discovering suspicious candy was asked not to consume or discard it, but rather to keep the candy and its packaging and to contact the OPS at 613-236-1222, ext. 7300.
