TORONTO – Penelope Cruz will receive a special award at this year’s edition of the Toronto International Film Festival.
The screen star — who is featured in two films screening at the festival this year — has been tapped for a TIFF Special Tribute Award in honour of her contribution to cinema.
South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong, meanwhile, will receive the TIFF Ebert Director Award.
His highly anticipated film “Possible Love” will have its North American premiere in Toronto.
Actresses Isabelle Huppert and Rosalind Eleazar will receive TIFF Tribute Performer Awards, and director Sian Heder will get an award for “impact media.”
The festival runs from Sept. 10-20 and the Tribute Awards will be handed out at a gala fundraiser on Sept. 13.
