Smoky conditions return, but weekend should clear up with mild temps

Take deep breaths to enjoy the relatively clear air Friday because forecasters expect smoke from northern Ontario wildfires to drift back in to the capital region through the day.

There are no alerts currently in effect, but the national air quality index lists conditions at Ottawa today to be 3-Low risk, rising to 5-Moderate Friday night, the 7-High on Saturday, and down to 5-Moderate Saturday night.

Weather-wise, Friday is looking pretty ideal, with mainly sunny skies and a high of about 25 C. Conditions could be on the humid side, and the UV index is expected to be 8, or very high.

Skies are expected to see increased cloudiness Friday evening, with a 60-per-cent chance of showers before morning. The low should be about 16.

There’s a risk of a thunderstorm before morning.

Saturday’s looking cloudy with a 60-per-cent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm.

The high is expected to be 25 C, with the humidity making it feel like 33 and a UV index of 6 or high.

There’s a 30-per-cent chance of showers Saturday with a low of 13 C.

Sunday’s looking pretty excellent, with sunny skies and a high of about 23 C. Sunday night looks clear, with a fresh low of 12 C.
