TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up 100 points in late-morning trading on Tuesday, helped by broad-based gains, while U.S. markets were down.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 100.88 points at 36,559.21.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 36.45 points at 53,939.53. The S&P 500 index was down 3.42 points at 7,749.69, while the Nasdaq composite was down 42.76 points at 26,562.60.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.77 cents US compared with 71.73 cents US on Monday.
The September crude oil contract was up 28 cents US at US$82.41 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$29.80 at US$4,449.50 an ounce.
