TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up more than 250 points, helped by strength in the energy and base metal sectors, while U.S. stock markets also climbed higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 270.69 points at 35,231.01.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 321.63 points at 52,160.89. The S&P 500 index was up 59.52 points at 7,502.80, while the Nasdaq composite was up 335.30 points at 25,843.37.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.94 cents US compared with 71.15 cents US on Monday.
The September crude oil contract was up US$1.84 at US$84.32 per barrel.
The August gold contract was up US$60.70 at US$4,076.60 an ounce.
