A teenage cyclist is dead and another teenager is facing several charges following a collision in Petawawa.
On Thursday, Oct. 29 at about 9:10 p.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment responded to a collision involving a bicycle and a passenger vehicle on Industrial Avenue.
A 17-year-old cyclist from Petawawa was airlifted to an Ottawa trauma centre and was later pronounced dead, the OPP stated in a news release on Monday, Nov. 2.
The lone occupant of the vehicle was not injured, police said.
Skyler Fischer, 19, of Petawawa has been charged with operation while impaired — drug; operation causing death; drive vehicle with cannabis readily available; and drive motor vehicle with speed-measuring warning device.
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, police said.
Fischer was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Monday.
The investigation continues with assistance from an OPP collision reconstructionist and OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members.
Petawawa is about 160 km northwest of Ottawa.
