It wasn’t a long weekend and the holiday season remains more than a month away, but impaired drivers kept the Gatineau Police Service more than a little busy during a span of little more than three days in late October.
Between 2:50 a.m. on Oct. 22 and 6:50 a.m. on Oct. 25, Gatineau officers arrested 10 men between the ages of 25 and 47 and two women aged 23 and 31, an Oct. 28 news release said.
Six of the arrests were on the night of Oct. 24, with five more on Oct. 25. Eight traffic stops were made during police patrols, with the other four made following reports from witnesses, the release added.
For each of the 12 drivers, it said, a file will be submitted to Quebec’s Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions. Among the charges being filed are: impaired driving ; driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg per 100 ml of blood; refusal to provide a breath or blood sample; obstructing police; and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
The highest breathalyzer readings among the 12 cases, police said, were 200 mg/100 ml of blood and 230 mg/100 ml of blood, or nearly three times the legal limit.
