The Ottawa Paramedic Service responded to two overnight stabbings on Oct. 1 downtown.
Emergency crews treated a woman with life-threatening injuries on Rideau Street, between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street, after receiving a 911 call at about 2:50 a.m. Thursday, paramedics said.
The woman, possibly in her 50s, according to Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps, was stabilized by first responders and transferred to the hospital.
Deschamps said the woman was in “life-threatening condition.”

The Ottawa Police Service arrested one person as a result of their investigation into the incident, according to a media release.
Ottawa Paramedics later responded to a second downtown stabbing.
“At 03:10 a.m., near Rideau and Waller (Streets), an adult male was stabbed and sustained serious but non life-threatening (injuries),” Deschamps said, adding that the man is at the hospital in serious condition.

Police said there are no other suspects and no known risk to public safety at this time.
The Ottawa Police did not say whether the two incidents were connected.
Police said that Rideau Street will be closed between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street as they continue the investigation and that “downtown Ottawa will see a heavy police presence throughout the day.”
