The victim in a fatal Plantagenet house fire on May 22 has been identified, and the Ontario Provincial Police are now saying no foul play is suspected.
The person who died in the fire was a 64-year-old woman from Plantagenet, the OPP said in a news release on Wednesday, May 27, but they did not release her name.
The Hawkesbury OPP detachment crime unit began an investigation, in conjunction with the provincial coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service and the Office of the Fire Marshal, immediately after the fire.
Police said in the May 27 release that, following that investigation, they “do not suspect foul play in relation to the fire or the death.”
At about 2:45 p.m. on May 22, officers responded to a report of a residential fire on Water Street, and the woman’s body was found inside the home.
The town of Plantagenet is located about 60 kilometres east of Ottawa.
