It’s the last long weekend of the summer, with Canada marking Labour Day on Monday, Sept. 7.
The holiday weekend could come with some showers, as Environment Canada’s weather forecast for Ottawa calls for 30 per cent chances of showers on Friday and Saturday and a 60 per cent chance on Labour Day Monday.
Nonetheless, the weather agency expects a warm weekend with daytime temperatures hovering in the mid-20s over the long weekend.
Here’s what’s open and closed in the nation’s capital on Labour Day Monday:
OC Transpo
OC Transpo buses and train services, including O-Train lines 1, 2 and 4 will follow a Sunday schedule.
- O-Train Line 1 will run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will run from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
- The Rural Shopper Route No. 301 will not run Monday.
Weekend service to summer destinations (The Canada Aviation and Space Museum and Route 125, Petrie Island on Route 139 and the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum on Route 8) will run throughout the long weekend.
Para Transpo regular booking or recurring trips for Labour Day Monday are automatically cancelled. Customers can book trips for Labour Day online using My Para Transpo starting Monday Aug. 31 or by calling 613-560-5000.
The OC Transpo Lost and Found at St-Laurent Station will be closed. The Rideau Centre OC Transpo Customer Service Centre, however, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.
Green bin, recycling and garbage collection
There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Monday.
Labour Day Monday’s pickup will instead take place the following day, on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Multi-residential garbage containers and bulky items will be collected on the regular scheduled day. Collection of multi-residential recycling containers and green bins will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 7.
Ottawa Client Service Centres
The City of Ottawa’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will remain open for urgent matters Sept. 7.
All of ServiceOttawa’s Client Services counters and phone lines will be closed.
Phone lines and supporting counters for the provincial court and APS hearing area (at Mary Pitt Centre at 100 Constellation Dr.) will be closed.
The Business Licensing Centre (at 735 Industrial Ave.), the Ottawa Spray and Neuter Clinic (at 26 Concourse Gate) and the City of Ottawa Archives (at the James Bartleman Centre) will all be closed.
Recreation and cultural services
Some recreation complexes and stand-alone indoor pools will be open and operating on a modified schedule but many are closed on Labour Day or for the weekend.

Splash pads will be open, weather permitting.
Wading pools and outdoor pools are closed for the season. Beaches will not be supervised.
City-operated museums, galleries, Ben Franklin Place and Shenkman Arts Centre, and Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe will be closed to the public.
Groceries, shopping and alcohol outlets
Most retail outlets though the city are closed, but not all.
- Rideau Centre will be open on Labour Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Bayshore Shopping Centre is closed on Monday
- Carlingwood Shopping Centre is closed Monday
- Place d’Orleans is closed Monday
- St. Laurent Centre is closed Monday
- Tanger Outlet is open Labour Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Billings Bridge is closed on Labour Day
- Most Farm Boy locations are closed Monday, except the Rideau Centre location, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Some Metro locations will be open, check with your store to be sure.
- LCBO stores will be closed on Monday.
Museums
Many museums across Ottawa are open for Labour Day.
- The Canadian Museum of Nature is open Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is open Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Canada Science and Technology Museum is open Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Canada Aviation and Space Museum is open Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Canadian Museum of History is open Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- National Gallery of Canada is open Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Diefenbunker will be closed on Labour Day
- Bytown Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday
- The Ottawa Art Gallery is closed on Mondays.
Canada Post
Canada Post is closed on national, provincial and territorial holidays, meaning there will be no collection or delivery of mail Monday. Private sector post offices, however, will operate according to the hours of service of the host business.
What’s open at Ottawa Public Health
Ottawa Public Health does have some services available Monday.
- The Site mobile van will be open from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
- For confidential health advice, contact with a registered nurse at Health 811.
Other City of Ottawa services closed Labour Day
Here are the other city services that will be closed on Monday.
- All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed to the public
- The City’s municipal child care centres will be closed
- All four Employment and Social Services offices will be closed Monday
- The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed
- The harm-reduction drop-in at 179 Clarence Street will be closed
- Dental clinics will be closed.
- The Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed on Monday
- The City’s immunization program phone line will be closed
