A 21-year-old woman died in hospital early Friday after a collision between the motorcycle she was riding and another vehicle in south-end Ottawa.

The Ottawa Police Service said emergency crews responded to a report of the collision at the area of West Hunt Club and Merivale roads at 5:56 a.m.

The vehicle involved in the collision left the scene before police arrived, an OPS release said, adding that investigators were requesting public assistance in locating a dark-coloured SUV with front-end damage.

Residents, motorists and businesses in the area around the intersection of West Hunt Club and Merivale were asked to review any available dashcam, surveillance or doorbell camera video from the time of the collision that may have captured the vehicle or its movements.

Anyone with information about the fatal collision was asked to contact the OPS Fatal Collision Investigation Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 2345. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.

A separate release from OPS said 26 traffic-related fatalities and eight life-threatening injury collisions had been reported to this point in 2026, surpassing the 23 fatalities recorded in all of 2025.

Among those reported killed this year have been seven pedestrians, one cyclist, four motorcyclists, one ATV operator and one moped or seated-scooter operator. “Investigators have also noted a concerning increase in collisions involving older pedestrians and motorcyclists,” the release said.
