Twenty-three people face a total of 56 charges for using cellphones while driving following an Ontario Provincial Police project targeting distracted driving in the Ottawa region on Wednesday, May 20.
One person was using a laptop computer while driving, the OPP said in a social media post, while there were also two child seat-belt violations, including one in which a passenger was holding a baby on their lap.
Others who were charged included five drivers who did not have insurance on their vehicles, one who was charged with stunt driving and two who were charged with driving while suspended.
The Ottawa detachment of the OPP also issued 21 warnings, the post said.
