Gasoline analysts are touting a probable price drop of more than 15 cents per litre by the weekend as the temporary “ceasefire” continues in Iran.

The latest forecast from Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague is for the price for regular gas to slide to about $1.74 per litre in the capital area by Friday.

That would conclude a 15-cent-per-litre drop over two days.

McTeague and others have credited the two-week ceasefire between the United States, Israel and Iran with calming the gasoline markets, at least temporarily.

He and other observers continue to insist that diesel prices are the “real issue” in energy prices.

Diesel prices are also expected to fall on Friday by 28 cents per litre to 206.9.

“Diesel affects the price of everything,” McTeague has told the Citizen.

“It’s crucial for those who carry and freight everything we have in this country from train to jet to trucks,” he says.

Since the conflict in the Middle East began, the price of diesel was always most concerning to McTeague.

Analysts also note refiners will switch to more expensive summer-grade blend gasoline later this month, with an accompanying seven- to 10-cent-per-litre price increase,
