A pair of Leeds County men face a long list of charges after provincial police seized dozens of prohibited or restricted firearms.
In a media release Saturday, OPP said the case began July 5 at 9:30 p.m. when police responded to an undescribed “reported incident.”
Following the incident, a search warrant was issued. Police did not identify the location of the site in the release.
The search yielded more than 30 firearms, “including restricted and prohibited” weapons, more that 50 “firearms-related” items, including ammunition and magazines, and one crossbow.
A 72-year-old man remains in custody, charged with:
- Sexual assault
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm – 26 counts
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order – 25 counts
A 69-year-old Leeds County man was released from custody after being charged with:
- Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – 16 counts
- Possession of firearm at unauthorized place – 8 counts
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm – 6 counts
Although only one of the men was charged with sexual assault, police said they were withholding the identities of both accused to protect the privacy of the assault victim.
Leeds County stretches north from Brockville to south of the Smiths Falls area.
