Man, 21, arrested in woman’s shooting death in Gatineau

Gatineau police said Sunday they have arrested a 21-year-old suspect in the shooting death of a 39-year-old woman at a Main Street “establishment” on April 23.

Police said in a release that Bradley Girard, 21, was arrested Saturday shortly after 7:15 p.m. and was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Justine Larche.

Girard was to appear in court Sunday, according to a release by Gatineau police and the Sûreté du Québec, which assisted in Girard’s arrest in the small Laurentian town of Nominingue, about 200 kilometres north of Gatineau.

Police said Girard was taken to the Mont-Laurier police station for interrogation, where he will remain in custody.

On April 23, Gatineau police were alerted to gunfire at the “Bar 77” on Main Street in the city’s Lac-Beauchamp district.

The victim was found with serious injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said Sunday.
