Man charged by Ottawa police with possession of replica firearms

A man in his 20s is facing a series of charges after the Ottawa Police Service seized a pair of replica firearms and ammunition magazines early on Thursday, June 18.

In a news release, the OPS said the man had been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, common nuisance/endangering the lives or safety of the public and mischief.

Officers were called to the area of Sunnyside Avenue and Carraway Private, a short distance east of the Bronson Avenue entrance to the Carleton University campus, at about 12:30 a.m. following a report of a man dressed in black and carrying what appeared to be an assault-style weapon.

The officers located the man on near Seneca Street and made an arrest, the release said, adding that an imitation assault-style rifle, a replica handgun with a magazine and additional magazines were seized.
