One individual was transported to hospital on Sunday afternoon, according to emergency crews, following a vehicle-train collision at the Fallowfield Road railway crossing.
Ottawa Paramedic Service commander of operations Kevin Montgomery said in an interview Sunday, Aug. 30, that paramedics treated one patient from the vehicle on scene.
Montgomery said paramedics determined the person was in stable condition.
“No train passengers were injured,” Montgomery said.
In a social media post online, Ottawa Fire Services said “firefighters safely extricated a trapped occupant after their vehicle collided with a train near Fallowfield Train Station.”
Fire crews responded to a call around 3:30 p.m. following reports of a collision involving a train and a vehicle at the Barrhaven railway crossing.
“Firefighters arrived three minutes after being dispatched and confirmed the heavily damaged vehicle had come to rest approximately 75 feet from the point of impact,” read the post.
“The lone occupant was trapped inside, the post read, but was safely freed at 3:40 p.m. Sunday.
The Ottawa Citizen also reached out to Via Rail for comment, but it did not immediately reply.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, Transport Canada and Ottawa Police will take on the investigation.
