A pair of stranded paddleboarders were rescued by Ottawa Fire Services rescue teams from the Deschênes Rapids late Thursday afternoon.
Gatineau fire services alerted their Ottawa colleagues at about 5 p.m. that the boarders were “stranded in the middle of the rapids” near the 2700 block of Cassels Street.
Two OFS teams launched rescue boats, with one positioned above the rapids and the other below. Two rescue specialists entered the water and swam from one of the rescue boats to reach the stranded paddleboarders.
The boarders were assisted into a rescue boat and safely brought back to shore at 5:32 p.m.
“The Deschênes Rapids remain the most frequent location for rescues by our Water Rescue Teams,” Ottawa Fire Services said in a release.
“We remind everyone heading out on the water to be aware of where rapids are located and the serious dangers they can pose.”
