According a release posted by Environment Canada at 7:54 p.m., conditions were favourable for the development of “severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail”.
The weather agency labelled the impact level as moderate and the forecast confidence as high. It stated that winds gusting from 90 km/h to 110 km/h were possible, with ping-pong-ball-sized hail and a tornado also possible.
Thunderstorms could continue until “late this evening”, it said.
It was expected that damaging wind gusts would be the “main threat”, with power outages possible.
