MONTREAL – A months-long strike at Metro’s Laval, Que., fresh produce distribution centre is coming to an end after workers ratified a new collective agreement.
The United Grocery Workers Union Metro-Richelieu says 77 per cent of workers who voted were in favour of the new agreement.
The deal says workers will receive a 22 per cent salary increase over five-and-a-half years, including a six per cent bump retroactive to September 2025 and another four per cent increase when workers return on Sunday.
About 550 unionized workers at the distribution centre, including those in transportation and at the head office, had been on strike since March 30.
Metro Inc. says operations will resume gradually starting Sunday.
It comes after negotiations dragged on for months, as the company and union remained far apart on terms — denting Metro’s earnings.
